Happy New Year!

1 01 2009

It’s 2009! I don’t understand why it is so exciting, but everyone else is posting this kind of thing, so welcome to a fresh start! Feel free to post a comment detailing your New Year’s Resolution (If you have one – I don’t bother), or don’t bother and keep it to yourself. As I say, I don’t have one myself, so I don’t mind whether you want to share or not. Last night me and Harry had our own mini New Year’s Eve party, at about 7:30, which consisted of a handful of Roses, Quality Street and Celebrations and a WKD-style drink each, all gathered around our two-player game of Uno. When he had gone to bed, the rest of us gathered round the TV to first watch Michael McIntyre’s DVD. I think the best joke was about the Man Drawer, the one drawer of the house that the man takes as his own – and chucks all his “manly” possessions into. These include instructions for things you don’t own anymore, old phones, currency from foreign countries that’s not in circulation now and takeaway menus (even though you order exactly the same things every time). It was hilarious! I won’t go into all the details, you can probably find it on YouTube or something if you want to watch it. Or alternatively, you could just buy the DVD.

To conclude, have a good year. Didn’t last year seem to go rather quickly?

Weekly, Schmeekly

30 12 2008

I’ve made a tactical decision and uploaded Episode 10 today because I couldn’t wait. It’s my favourite one, not because I think it’s the best one, but because of the main subject of the video. It’s my new MacBook! My MacBook is a star on YouTube! Go ahead and watch it. Just ignore my hand and the big piece of green string that also appear during the movie. I just didn’t want to drop my laptop, so I feel it was necessary. Enjoy, and I think I’ll drop the weekly episodes – I’ll just upload them when they’re finished instead. Better than trying to rush to meet a deadline…

Life With A MacBook – Day 1

28 12 2008

So it’s been about 27 hours since I first pressed the power switch on my shiny new computer. I’ve had to do about 12 updates, and three of these required a system restart, but that didn’t take long. Most of the applications I’m going to want are installed, including Photoshop Elements 6, Adium, Skype, NetNewsWire, Audacity, WireTap Pro and Office 2008. All day today I’ve been playing with it, customising settings and whatnot, and watched an hour and 40 minutes of TV shows and movies transferred from my iPod in between downloads. I also spent about three hours searching for a suitable case for it, and eventually found one on Amazon for about £13. I have just given up looking for a free alternative to Coda, because I can’t find one. Oh well. It’s not overly important – it was just for fun stuff like making Dock Icons for Adium. Finally, I’ve been getting used to Quıcĸsıɩⅴεʀ, the “unified, extensible interface for working with applications, contacts, music, and other data.” It’s rather nifty; I can open an application by typing four keystrokes – for example, S-A-F-Return opens Safari – and play a song from iTunes without going anywhere near my music library. I’m off to have some more quality Me & MacBook time. Bye bye!

Super-Ultra-Mega-Yay!

27 12 2008

MacBook2008I’m really, really, really, really, really happy! Do you know why? It’s because I don’t need to order my new MacBook any more! We went into Brighton today, to Solutions, and bought it! In fact, I’m typing this post from “Mr MacBook”! I was in the process of adding bookmarks to Safari and downloading my favourite applications such as NetNewsWire and Adium when I realised that I needed to post about it! I got a 13″ Aluminium MacBook with 2GB RAM (more than my iMac at home!) and a 160GB hard drive (Less than my iMac at home) and it’s rather nice. It has a multi-touch trackpad so I can swipe with different combinations of fingers for different effects – for example, a three-finger swipe to the left in Safari is essentially the same as pressing the Back button in the browser. It’s really good! And the best part is, it’s all mine! No-one to tell me what applications I can install or anything! Yay!

I’m off to do some more customising. See you soon!

D’oh! Not Again!

26 12 2008

I know that I said there would be another MCSMS tomorrow, and I even made it in advance, but I forgot to bring it with me this weekend. You know what that means: another extra day to wait until Sunday. Sorry!

On a happier note, Merry Christmas for yesterday! I hope Santa brought you what you wanted. Personally, I’m saving for a new MacBook so I wanted money this year instead of presents. I got it – to the tune of £519. Which means that I now have enough to order my computer! Yay!

I also received an evil 4x4x4 Rubik’s Cube and Animal Crossing for Wii, amongst some other, littler presents.

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town…

24 12 2008

Yes, in the words of Frank Sinatra (and probably a load of other people as well), Santa Claus is indeed coming to town. Dig around in the loft and find that stocking and get it hung up – usual preference is over the fireplace, but if you don’t have a fireplace, or work for the fire brigade and don’t like the fire hazard of cloth near an open fire, hang it at the end of your bed instead. The big guy in a red costume will come when you are sleeping, but he knows when you’re awake and he knows if you’ve been bad or good, so be good for goodness’ sake! Otherwise, he won’t visit and then you’ll be like “Oh, if only I was good and I went to sleep last night” and you won’t have any extra presents. You’ll regret it! I bet you didn’t know that St. Nick actually came from Turkey (although that’s probably not the reason that we eat turkey on the 25th) and that, before he was commercialised, he actually wore a green suit! Bet that doesn’t seem right when you picture it in your head!

There will be a special Christmas-themed MCSMS tomorrow, so keep your eyes peeled and have fun watching! Plus there will be another episode on Saturday, as usual! I spoil you, don’t I?

Finally, why not spoil your Mac (or iPhone) by making it all Christmassy?

I’ve Been Too Ill, Sir!

20 12 2008

That’s my excuse/reason why I didn’t do my homework next episode of Mr Cheese’s Stop Motion Show. It was true, though. I have had a different problem every day since Monday, so you can’t blame me. All I wanted to do was sit around and get better. There was no way I could manage to spend an hour making a stop motion. So, sorry to disappoint, but I promise I’ll get better and make a festive episode ready for Thursday. And there might even be another one on Saturday as well, but you’ll have to wait and see. See you again at some point in the space-time continuum!
