Same Old…

31 08 2008

Today was a rather non-exciting day, due to the fact that we could not think of anything to do except go into town. We got up, went into town, where I bought a book – The General, by Robert Muchamore – then we came home again to have lunch before spending the rest of the day pottering around on the computer. I started to sort out my iTunes library, adding a few new songs, and creating a sorting system whereby it only plays songs that I like. In the evening, I took the train home, filled my pencil case for school then came up here to go on my Mac. I found a good games site, which you can find here, where you get “badges” for doing certain things in the games.

Hopefully tomorrow will be more interesting.

The YouTube Time Warp

30 08 2008

After being sent a link to a video on YouTube by my Chromatically Challenged Father, which was the song “Toast” by Streetband from the 1970s, and then being guided through other songs by him, I essentially went through the YouTube Time Warp of songs. Starting with “Toast” in the early 70s, we progressed to the late 1970s with Jilted John, then went on to Plastic Bertrand with “Ca Plane Pour Moi” in 1978. Afterwards we jumped ahead to 2008 with the Ting Tings and “Shut Up and Let Me Go”. Finally, we got a taste of the 1980s with “Mickey” by Toni Basil. What a day!

In the evening, we watched Batman Forever (the one with Harvey Two-Face and the Riddler). That was good, especially as I hadn’t seen it before.

Palindromes

12 04 2008

I was told of a great song by “Weird Al” Pankovic the other day called Bob. It’s entirely made up of palindromes (phrases that read the same backwards) that are organized into rhyming verses, such as:

Oh, no! Don Ho!
Nurse, I spy gypsies — run!
Senile felines
Now I see bees I won
UFO tofu
We panic in a pew
Oozy rat in a sanitary zoo
God! A red nugget! A fat egg under a dog!
Go hang a salami, I’m a lasagna hog

If you read each line backwards, it is still the same! But don’t try to start at the bottom and work up – it won’t work as a song anymore! “Bob” is a song on Weird Al’s album “Poodle Hat”, if you want to purchase it.
Like one of his other songs says, however, “Don’t Download This Song”!
