macworldgrextetWell, I don’t really have much to say at the moment, except I got my English coursework done on time (yippee) and I am definitely not very good at Tetris (boo). Oh, and I can’t wait to see the video of the Apple keynote which may, or may not, have finished yet. It started about 55 minutes ago – any ideas how long before the video will be online anyone?

You Have Seven Days Remaining On Your Trial License

7 10 2008

This message is to inform you that you have only seven days remaining on your trial license for Mr Cheese’s Random Ramblings. After this time, your web browser will be blocked from viewing this webpage. To view your details or to purchase a full license, click here.

Just kidding! You can stay as long as you want! I just said that because it’s the topic of today’s post: free trials.

I have downloaded a few free trials for my Mac recently; Notebook, MacJournal and a game called Hordes Of Orcs. In fact, I’m using MacJournal right now to type this!

I found Hordes Of Orcs a little boring. It’s very repetitive and I just got tired of watching the same thing happening on every level.

I’m still trying Notebook, but from what I’ve seen of it, it’s really good! I don’t think I’ll be paying the $50 (£28.66) to purchase the full version. At least, not until I have a real need for it other than playing.

Finally, MacJournal. This is the first time I have used it, typing this post, so I have no idea whether it’s a good-un or not. I’ll have to wait and use my seven days to find out.

I’ll post back later with the test results!

A Game Of Chess

4 10 2008

I’ve been carrying on teaching Harry chess, and since I was on my own today, I decided to play my two chess games on the computer against each other. So, it was Apple Chess against Chessmaster 9000. Who do you think won? I’d like to say it was good old Apple, but since Chessmaster 9k is a professional chess game, it had the expert knowledge to checkmate Apple’s King in 8 moves! 1-0 to Chessmaster!

I just installed 9k on Harry’s PC. He’s playing on Beginner mode and so far all I’ve heard from the other room is “Checkmate” around 6 times. He’s still not the best player in the world…

A Revisit To An Old Friend

23 03 2008

Today, I, as the title suggests, revisited an old friend. “Who is this friend?”, I hear you ask! Well it’s not “who” but “what”. The subject at hand here is Enigmo 2 – a puzzle game from Pangea Software. The object is to collect 50 drops of water, 50 particles of plasma, or 50…er…”bits” of laser (What do you call a “bit” of laser?!) in a tank. Once you get past level 7 it gets very hard because it starts using three axis instead of two, which means that you have to line the objects up not just up, down, left and right, but forwards and backwards as well. Trust me, it takes a lot of patience!

As an extra bonus note, today’s post marks 8 posts on my blog – the first number to mean that there are more than the ones on the first page!
